Marta Masip Montaner

Criminal defence lawyer with a strong academic background in Criminal Law, built through her preparation for the Spanish Judicial and Public Prosecutor careers, as well as her Master's Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences jointly offered by Pompeu Fabra University and the University of Barcelona. Her rigorous and committed approach to criminal defence is complemented by her extensive teaching experience.

  • Marta Masip graduated in Law from Pompeu Fabra University in 2012. Between 2013 and 2018, she prepared for the competitive examinations to enter the Spanish Judicial and Public Prosecutor careers. She subsequently completed the Master’s Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences at the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University (2018–2020). In 2022, she also completed a course on International Child Abduction and a specialised training programme for lawyers practising before the Juvenile Courts, organised by the Barcelona Bar Association.
  • Since joining the legal profession, Marta has devoted her practice exclusively to Criminal Law, representing both individuals and public and private legal entities before courts and tribunals throughout Spain in all types of criminal proceedings.
  • Among her publications is the e-book “Minors and New Technologies: What to Fear and How to Protect Them”, of which she is co-author.
  • In academia, Marta is an Associate Professor at Ramon Llull University and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). She also teaches Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure in the Basic Training Course for Police Officers (2025–2026) at the Catalan Institute of Public Security.
  • In 2023, she was recognised and included in the international Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch Spain™ ranking (2024 edition) in the Criminal Defense category.
  • In 2024, she was awarded the Luis del Castillo Prize (2023 edition) for her research project entitled: “The Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in International Criminal Justice and Its Impact on Human Rights. Reflections in Light of the Landmark Judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union of 7 December 2023 (Case C-634/21). Analysis of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation.”
  • Marta currently serves as a Member of the Criminal Law Section of the Barcelona Bar Association.
